Our Story
Noorderlicht started as a temporary pavilion on the NDSM wharf — a former shipyard on the IJ river in Amsterdam-Noord that was slowly transforming into one of the city's most creative spaces. What began as an experiment grew into a permanent fixture of the cultural landscape.
Our cafe sits right at the water's edge, overlooking the IJ and Amsterdam's skyline. By day, a place to work, have lunch, and meet friends. By night, a stage for live music, DJ sets, film screenings, and cultural events. Year-round, the best sunset view in Noord.
The kitchen works seasonally with local suppliers. Honest dishes, sustainably prepared — from breakfast to dinner. Our menu changes with the seasons, featuring ingredients from regional farms and producers.
Noorderlicht is more than a restaurant. It's a meeting place for artists, musicians, neighbours, and visitors. A space where creativity, community, and good food come together at the water's edge.
